Ceramic Proppant Producing Process

As we all know, ceramic proppant (ceramic sand)is one of the most important materials used in hydraulic fracturing, but few people now the how to produce ceramic proppant. In fact, its excellent quality come from the strictly control system through the whole producing process. Following is the details :

Proppant producing process 1: Milling and Mixing

Raw material has to be carefully selected so that to make sure the proppant has best quality possible. The main raw material is bauxite, but there are still other minerals in it. These raw materials will be milled into power, and then mixed together for the nest step of producing.

Proppant producing process 2: Pelletization

The mixed power then is sent to the rotary kiln, where they will be pelletized into small balls. These small balls are preliminary proppant, or we can say they are semi-finished proppant.

Proppant producing process 3: Drying, Sieving and Sintering

Now the shape has been almostly fed, and after drying the proppant will be sieved. As I said at the beginning of the article, quality control is all through the whole producing process. Then the qualified proppant is sent to be sintered to make high resistance rate.

Proppant producing process 4: Classification and Homogenization

Finished proppant will be classified into different groups according to their particle sizes. Mainly there are 20 40 mesh, 30 50 mesh, 40 70 mesh. Now they can be called finished proppant, and the shape is balls or we can say beads.

Proppant producing process 5: Storage

Storage is much more than just put the proppant in the warehouse. We use high quality package to make sure the proppant won’t be damaged by water or air.
